Wet grassland

  • Wet grasslands full of wildflowers are found in the low-lying areas of the pastures in the valley floor. These grasslands are in four relatively flat areas and also beside streams that run through undulating areas of pasture
  • Typical plants include Common Spotted Orchid, Cowslip, Meadowsweet, Sweet Vernal Grass, Crested Dog’s-tail, Greater Bird’s-foot Trefoil and Meadow Saxifrage
  • Less widespread plants include Adder’s Tongue Fern, Flat Sedge, Devil’s-bit Scabious and Marsh Arrowgrass
  • The wet grasslands are grazed by cattle. We sometimes supplement this with mowing and removal of cuttings where we feel areas are under-grazed
