Wetlands
Abbey Farm has a variety of wetlands:
- Springs. These rise out of the chalk and feed water to the wetlands. Most of the springs do not flow all year round. One that flows from December to June can be seen from the path to the farm’s bird hide (read more)
- Ponds. There are several different kinds of pond on Abbey Farm. Some are fed by water from the springs and often dry up for part of the year. Other ponds have water in all year round (read more)
- Chalk streams. The streams here are fed by springs; as soon as the springs stop flowing, so do the streams. There is one stream that has never been known to dry up. You can see temporary and permanent streams in the public access pasture (read more)
- Wet grasslands. Beside the ponds and streams there are wet grasslands that are rich in wildlife (read more)
