Species – and flower rich
- Much of the grassland has 20-25 species of plant per metre square (grasses as well as flowering-plants)
- The grassland is rich in flowers. In part this is because we used diverse seed mixes that included 50-70 species of flowering plant. How rich is ‘flower-rich’ – read more
- The seed mix had a high proportion of flower seeds with c.80% flower and 20% grass in the initial mix
- Flowers may also be apparent because grazing animals are excluded from many parts of the grassland during May-August so flowers are not eaten off
