Introduction and advice

What is described here is what we’ve done at Abbey Farm. We started by developing our own techniques but have also benefitted from expert advice. Important sources of advice are:

  • Flora locale (www.floralocale.org) produce information and run highly informative workshops covering a range of important principles and techniques in grassland creation. Their website shows current resources and workshops
  • Millennium Seed Bank Project at Wakehurst Place (www.kew.org/msbp) produce Technical Information Sheets on subjects like seed collecting, handling and drying. They also run workshops on seed collecting through Flora locale
  • People with recognised local botanical expertise, for example the county plant recorder. Such people have good awareness of the characteristics and species of local grasslands. They may also know about recent historical change in grasslands and be willing to help with identification
  • Other sources of information and guidance are given in the relevant sections following
